Livelihoods consist of the capabilities, assets - both material and social resources - and activities required for a means of living. A livelihood is sustainable when it can cope with and recover from stresses and shocks, maintain or enhance its capabilities and assets, and provide net benefits to other livelihoods locally and more widely, both now and in the future, while not undermining the natural resource base. Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) is very clear in its perspective of socio-economic development with a professional and positive outlook.
Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT), committed for development of the rural livelihoods was established by Krishak Bharti Co-operative Limited with the support from Govt. of India and Department for International Development (DFID), U.K. The mission of the GVT is to act as a catalyst to enable the rural communities to improve their livelihoods in the resource poor areas.
While working with over a million people during the past one and half decades, GVT has had a diverse portfolio of activities aimed at providing and enhancing the livelihood of communities in over 150 villages across eight states. GVT specializes in fields like natural resource management, watershed development, agriculture, livelihood improvement, institutional development, women empowerment, labour supports and micro enterprise development. After gaining years of experience working on the development of rural economies, GVT has established National Livelihoods Resource Institute in Ratlam, M.P. to share its experiences with a wider audience through an annual calendar of client-responsive activities like interactive trainings, participatory research etc.
Gramin Vikas Trust has been registered, under Indian Trust Act 1882, at New Delhi, vide Registration No. 1501/4 dated 4th May 1999 (Book No. IV, page no. 145-163). Its Registered Office is: 49-50 Red Rose House, Nehru Place, New Delhi 110 019 and its corporate office is in Noida, U.P. GVT is exempted against Income Tax under section 35 AC of Income Tax Act.1961. It is registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976 besides it also has exemption under section197 (1) of the Income Tax Act 1961. GVT is registered under Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976, with registration no. 231660318.

Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) has been developing innovative solutions for the livelihoods security of poor and marginalised people since the early 1990's.
Western India Rainfed Farming Project and the counterpart Eastern India Rainfed Farming Project have been two of its leading flagship interventions.They helped GVT stretch its reach into Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the west and Orissa, jharkhand and West Bengal in the east.
GVT has implemented its projects in some of the most telling conditions on the country's landscape, where poverty has been at its worst and ecological conditions most hostile. Yet, these have proved a boon to GVT, which, through sheer perseverance and sustained innovation, has developed benchmarks in rural development. In its pursuit for excellence, GVT has partnered with hosts of agencies including DFID , UNDP , Rockfeller Foundation , European Union , government departments , research institutions, non governmental organisations and village communities.
